Lambda UK
TDK-Lambda is a subsidiary of the TDK Corporation, a leading global electronics company. As part of their ongoing improvements TDK Lambda decided to send Tim Puttick, Production Manager, onto the Operational Leadership Programme (OLP) to develop his leadership skills and apply Lean Manufacturing skills through the chosen Programme Project.
Testlink
TestLink was established in 1989 and is still managed by its founding directors. TestLink provide a wide range of ATM support services such as parts repair, spare part sales and used ATM sales to the banks, independent ATM deployers and the leading ATM manufacturers around the world. Additionally Testlink carry out after sales support primarily around the high volume repair of laptops for the leading OEM's such as Toshiba and Fujitsu Siemens.
Chough Bakery
The Chough Bakery, in the heart of Padstow, North Cornwall, has experienced considerable growth in business during the past few years. Owners Rob and Elaine Ead have developed considerable market share within the food and drink sector of the county. Because of growing demand, the decision was made to move the production side of the business to a purpose built industrial unit on the outskirts of town.

DESO Ltd, specialise in the design and manufacture of fuel and oil storage systems. In order to maintain the momentum of business improvement, DESO Ltd, placed two of its manufacturing Team Leaders on the Operational Leadership Programme, delivered by the South West Manufacturing Advisory Service.

Family-owned T M Safety Signs has been manufacturing innovative, energy-efficient and practical safety products for the traffic management industry for the past 12 years. In particular, it has become recognised for its remote controlled, temporary road signs which eliminate the need for workers to cross live carriageways.
Corin Group Plc
Hip/Knee replacement and surgical instrumentation products. Key Achievements * Implemented new cellualr layout reducing leadtime by 22 weeks * 80% delivery on time. * Increased productivity flow * Increased shop floor communcation. * Use of PDCA as continuous improvemnt process * Increased confidence to lead CI and implementation.
Francis & Lewis International
Francis and Lewis International (FLI) fabricate telecoms, radar and meteorology towers in a variety of innovative and attractive designs for the major mobile phone companies, Networkrail and other customers. Key Achievements: The exercise lead to FLI focusing on helical piling in Rail & Highways as it’s major initiative for the future. Other opportunities, such as overseas markets were dropped. This contributed to FLI securing more business with an existing customer which might otherwise have been lost, and represents 15% of the turnover in 2008.
SPP Pumps Ltd
SPP specialises in the design, manufacture and supply of split case, end suction and vertical turbine pumps for applications such as water supply, sewage and storm water handling HVAC, irrigation drainage and well pumping across the globe. Key Achievements: * Initial results confirm that the productivity has almost doubled in the area and significant inroads into an order backlog have improved cash flow and customer satisfaction. * Middle & top management effectiveness and efficiency has been improved by the visual planning and performance boards which reduce the time taken to understand the current position within assembly and machining areas and to allow rapid prioritisation of corrective actions. * Shopfloor & planning staff are delighted with the new systems as it makes their job so much easier and has given them the opportunity to learn new skills and make a personal contribution to the design of their working environment.
Tungum Ltd
Sub contract tube manipulation and fabrication including hydraulic braking assemblies for rail industry. This Gloucestershire company chose MAS to help develop its management team using the Operational Leadership Programme.
William Haley Engineering
Established manufacturing business designing, manufacturing and erecting bespoke steel framed buildings. Although the manufacturing processes are very slick and lean, the manufacturing process was deemed as the weak area of the company. Results :- Output increased by 27% Tonnes per employee increased by 10 % Non conformances reduced by 42 % Major reduction in absenteeism
Markus Products
Markus Products is an established business manufacturing flavoured butter spreads and oils. Overall the company has been very successful in implementing a continuous improvement and manager / team-leader development programme. Due to this, the company has become more efficient and therefore far more competitive. The management team then decided to build on this by putting the company forward for the food and safety management system. (The BRC Global Standard - Food.) In order to achieve this award internal auditors would need to be appointed and trained.

Smith and Jones Joinery Ltd
Smith & Jones Joinery Ltd has long been established in Chard as a manufacturer of high quality, bespoke joinery. This was a 2-day project working with Maurice and Pauline and, latterly, Dean the recently promoted Workshop Supervisor. There are now simple and robust processes in place to control jobs from receipt of order to despatch. The directors have a clear understanding of the company financial position and forward order book.
Aldermans
Aldermans deliver engineered metalwork solutions, providing engineering capabilities to assist clients from concept, through prototyping, to manufacture and continuous product/service development. They serve a variety of industry sectors including retail, marine, architectural, food and manufacturing. Aldermans have worked with Manufacturing Advisory Service in the South West (MAS-SW) and The National Skills Academy for Manufacturing (The Skills Academy) to improve their competitiveness.

RH Fireboard Containers Ltd, is a family business specialising in the design and manufacture of corrugated cardboard packaging. The business experienced significant growth during 2006 and identified the need to invest in new machinery to provide additional capacity for further expansion.
W & J Tod Ltd
W & J Tod Ltd is a leading-edge composite material supplier to the aerospace and defence industry. The scope of the project was to deploy SC21* by introduction and use of the SC21 "Diagnostics" tools and techniques, Business and Manufacturing Excellence, Relationships, Q & D Performance and the development of the company's bespoke CSIP (Continuous Sustainable Improvement Plan) and SC21 Exposition.
