Farécla products will go on shining
Originally conceived in 1953, the Farécla team has honed its skills and created a world-class range of surface-finishing compounds, which as existing customers will testify, have been adding lustre to a variety of surfaces for decades, particularly within automotive and marine sectors around the world. Farécla requested MAS assistance to improve productivity through reduction of changeovers and improved operation of the production cycle.

The goal was to work with the operations team and key support areas to develop improved methods to reduce operating costs and achieve efficiency savings. This was to occur through the whole supply chain by understanding all
the core activities and targeting and implementing change successfully. An action plan for each area to tackle identified
waste was created.
A current state Value Stream Map identified opportunities to reduce the value of finished goods stock.
Maximum stock levels were agreed for the different product types based on customer demand. The consequence for
manufacture was that products would be run more frequently in smaller variable batch sizes. There would be more frequent clean downs and change overs in the mixing and filling/packing areas. Studies of the change overs using SMED methodology
resulted in up to 50% reductions in the time taken for change over without adding to the quantity of waste water for disposal.
With help from the technical department the optimum sequence of products to reduce the depth of clean down necessary was agreed and this formed the basis of a proposed fixed 8 week planning cycle.
